Puakenikeni, Fagraea Berteroana, flower is known for its floral, sweet, and rich fragrance. Introduced to Hawai’i from the South Pacific in the early 1900’s, Puakenikeni quickly became popular for making fragrant lei. Its name, Puakenikeni or the “Ten-Cent Flower”, comes from the Hawaiian word “pua” meaning “flower” and “kenikeni” meaning “dime or ten-cents”. The name refers to the price of these lei when sold to visitors of the islands during the early 1900’s. This scent is used in aromatherapy to open the heart chakra, calm the nervous system, and heighten awareness.

Kukui Nut was brought to Hawai’i as a vital resource by Polynesian voyagers. Also known as the candlenut tree, its high oil content was famously used as a lamp oil. Ancient and modern Hawaiians use it for its moisturizing benefits and medicinal qualities. The oil protects skin from the elements, sun and wind, by forming a protective barrier. It is lightweight and fast-absorbing, sinking into the skin leaving it feeling hydrated rather than greasy. This oil also contains essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants.
